The Alien Within: 13 – Lucky Numbers, Numbness & Non-Movements
13…
Thirteen has been my favourite number, I would not necessarily call it lucky, since as long as I can remember, well, at least since Green has been the most awesome colour in the WWW (Whole Wide World) and that has been forever…
Today is the thirteenth occasion of putting fingers to keyboard for my diary of life with The Alien Within. Tapping on the ultra light keyboard of this, my iPad, reminds me that they are still tingly and weird and the tapping accentuates the feeling. But this is a very minor concern, as long as the weirdy bit does not turn to numbness in the tips of my digits. And it is the one side effect they have not actually prescribed anything for. Although I am not sure what they could, or would, do about it if it persisted or even worsened.
However, despite their best efforts, they have been unable to help me shake the bloat!
I take bran for breakfast, prune juice through the day and, up until yesterday, the prescribed Senna Tabs and still the result is non-movement, period! I did feel a little more human this morning and attended a business meeting in our local Hotel. After lunch, which was only a modest filled roll, the bloat returned with a vengeance…
Consequently, I have vowed not to shove more garbage in until we have expelled some of the garbage already within. To assist the evacuation process; I have taken four sachets of yet another prescribed product, Movicol. I hasten to add, not all together, although I did take two at once this evening (the prescribed adult dosage is one to three sachets!). Things are getting pretty desperate.
As I mentioned in yesterday’s entry, we will know to cater for this aspect in advance next time and the bloat deterrents will be commencing before the beast gets a hold. Apparently, these effects are caused by one element of the chemotherapy cocktail – Vincristine/Oncovin – and are known to be cumulative. Watch out gut!
Anyway, enough of that nasty distasteful business; in all other aspects of the, so called, slump week I appear to be over the hump in the slump. I feel more normal today and even the weariness has improved noticeably.
Yes, there are still the other reminders, like the tingly digits and wayward tastebuds, but the main stuff seems to be dissipating without any proper major issues.
Hopefully, tomorrow’s blood count will, again, be as expected and we can look forward to a reasonable weekend and next week. I will, of course, let you know in due course.
WTS…
NEXT: Week 2 – Day 11
Let’s hope the Movicol works!! Go Go Go!!! xoxo
Seems to have done, which is j just as well, as the new cocktail. Has had an immediate and noticeable effect on my movements…
Vincristine derives from Madagascar Periwinkles and used to be a folk remedy according to Wikipedia – I hope it’s giving the Alien Within a far worse time of it than it is giving your guts !
Thanks a lot for stopping by Darren, it is much appreciated! All I know is the cocktail is all nasty stuff, but as long as it does its job is all that matters… :). Should be on a good(ish) week next week, before starting the next cycle a week Monday…
