The Alien Within: 24 – Pumps, Hula Hoops & Cheesey Puffs…
The Pump Returns…
Bright and breezy, scrubbed and shaved, again! Headed off for PCH earlyish with the clear intention of grabbing a Flat White before commencing the second Chemo cycle. Not sure, however, this was the brightest of ideas, as the caffeine kicked in almost immediately I hit the Day Unit and very shortly after this I was further infused with more system enhancing and nerve shattering dope, in the form of a mahoosive dose of steroids! But I did really enjoy the FW…
Five hours, or so, after entering the DU, booster Chemo and other stuff intravenously fed to my blood supply, I left with a brand new toxic vesicant pump attached to my PICC…
Whilst sitting in my treatment chair (photos are frowned on, but I may try in a quiet moment for a later post!) I started to get the munchies fairly early on. Jilly reckons it is just boredom, but I firmly believe it is the effect of the steroids on my metabolism, it sounds plausible at least! Anyway, I munch my way through three little packs of snacks, and three packs of Hula Hoops, my favourite crispy type snack from bygone days. I also enjoyed a salmon and cucumber sammich kindly provided by the Unit and a Drench and Snickers from the Friends trolley at lunch time.
I must confess, the munchies did not stop after returning home! I scoffed a small tin of Sour Jelly Beans whilst walking Benson, had a lovely dinner followed by one of Jill’s homemade Chocolate Mousse Pots, a fair few Cherry and Lemon Sours from the Cavendish & Harvey brand. And then half a bag of Cheesey Puffs, the left overs from a fresh pack I started a few days ago…
And now it’s time for bobos!
Good night dear readers, more will follow on the morrow as we continue this roller coaster trip of a lifetime, together…
